Employment Law Changes – April 2017

It’s that time of year when employment law changes come into practice in the UK.   People Management magazine has called it #HRmegamonth and there are several changes to be aware of this year.  Key changes are:

  • The Apprenticeship Levy – designed to encourage 3 million new apprenticeships by 2020
  • Gender Pay Gap Reporting – for organisations with 250 employees and over
  • Salary sacrifice changes – limiting tax advantages of this way of providing employee benefits
  • Minimum wages increases – from £7.20 to £7.50 per hour and other rises for young people
  • Statutory family-related, redundancy and sick pay – increases, limits and a new tax-free childcare scheme
  • Immigration skills charge – annual levy introduced and increased salary threshold
  • IR35 reforms – impacting contractors working in the public sector
